Girl Who’s Been There:
I want to start by saying something that no algorithm, no trending sound, and definitely no influencer will tell you: you’re not lazy. And no, despite what the headlines scream, porn isn’t the worst thing haunting TikTok.
What is haunting TikTok — what’s eating away at girls like me — is something far quieter, more manipulative, and much harder to name. It’s not in-your-face explicit. It’s in-your-head constant. It’s that feeling of never being enough, even when you’re doing everything you can.
Let me explain.
It Starts Small:
You open the app to relax. Just ten minutes, you say. You scroll. A girl pops up — body perfect, hair shiny, skin like butter, dancing in some impossibly expensive outfit with some caption like “woke up like this”. You scroll again. Another girl. Same perfection. Then another. And another.
You start to shift in your bed.
Your hand goes to your hair. You suddenly feel less. Your mind goes, “Why don’t I look like that? Maybe if I lost a little weight… maybe if I dressed like her… maybe if I danced like that…”
And in that moment, you don’t even realize it, but a part of you gets lost.
