The Predator story takes a U-turn — no spoilers — Spoiler alert for original 1987 Predator only
In 1987, film Director John McTiernan brought us Predator, a unique horror-science fiction movie. The monster in this film was an alien on Earth who successfully killed a band of highly skilled soldiers in the jungles of South America. I loved the movie Predator because it broke the standards of a monster movie, becoming a cerebral contest of strength, intelligence, animal survival, and technology.
With that film, the Predator franchise was born, leading to many sequels and now prequels with a new release of Predator: Badlands. I’ve enjoyed the sequels Predator 2 (1990,) and Predators and even Aliens vs. Predator, but have lost the story with the newer films after the disaster of Aliens vs. Predator: Requiem. I just can’t get back the two hours spent on that film.
In the Predator franchise, viewers are slowly learning about the Yautja, a species with a head somewhat similar to a large insect, described as an “Ugly mutherfucker” in the films. He is an adaptive, creative, intelligent, persistent, fearless, and driven predator.
