Question about visual health systems in video games

I was discussing the OG resident evil 2 with a friend and we talked about the visual damage system they had, if you hit caution you'd hold your side, and when close to death you would move/limp slowly as well as hold side, pretty cool system for a game at that time right?

Was there any other game that used this kind of feature apart from like, doom showing his face get bloody? We couldn't really think of one and thought maybe re2 was the first to do this full visual health level. Are we wrong? Do we just not remember other games?

Edit: I'm happy to see a lot of the little ways games show health in some way! My question is more geared towards any games up to the PS1, but even if it's post PS1 share the ways that games show you or hint to you how your health is!
