Medicaid
As the almost six of you who read my posts know, I am embarked on a year long project of trying to persuade President Trump to resign.
Yeah, I know.
My next project is to invent a tablet that you drop into your car to provide pollution free energy that will power your vehicle for 1,000 miles. Each tablet will cost a penny and come in a box of 100.
More about that later.
Anyway, I write a letter a week (sometimes more) which each one examining a different reason he should resign. Real, physical letters in envelopes with a stamp and everything!
Among the issues I have already covered are his betrayal the Constitution, invasion of L.A., waging war without congressional authorization, the betrayal of Ukraine (maybe he’s backing off on that!), his general buffoonery, etc.
You can read the last one here and then work your way back if you are interested.
I urge you to join me in this effort.
Below you will find this week’s letter.
Dear Mr. President,
It looks like I’ll be around to complete my year long project of writing you a letter a week (sometimes more) explaining why you should resign. I just got the results of my biopsy and was given a clean bill of health. So look forward to receiving more letters that you can ignore through about the beginning of April 2026.
I might even keep going after that.
So, to the folks in the mailroom, you’ll continue to hear from me.
Mr. President, you might wonder why I am sharing my medical results with you. It’s because those results make a point that seems to escape your Medicaid destroying minions. The point is the vital necessity of ensuring all residents of our nation have access to proper healthcare.
While it is true that the wonderful medical team that carried out my procedure found no sign of cancer, it was possible that they could have found such signs. It is also possible that they will still find such signs in the future. That is why I will need to keep going back for various procedures. As you are surely aware, early detection of cancer is a key factor in survival rates. If a patient postpones examination this can delay discovery and treatment and result in needless death.
In other words, delay can kill.
Lack of insurance is the main reason people delay examinations.
I am not on Medicaid. Instead, I have Medicare as well as some insurance through the state of North Carolina due to my being a retired state employee. But there are many who do not have access to those programs but instead are dependent on Medicaid as well as on insurance gained through Obamacare. According to the Association of Health Care Journalists as many as 17 million Americans will lose their health insurance due to your recent “Big Beautiful (Bad) Bill”.
As someone whom you would consider a “leftwing lunatic” I think that would be a bad thing. Years ago I came across the phrase in the Declaration of Independence that all men (we would now say “people”) have the “rights of Life, Liberty, and the Pursuit of Happiness.” I actually believe in that principle, and while I know that it is not a legally enforceable edict (it is not, after all, in the Constitution) it is still a vital principle of our nation. Therefore we must act as if we believe it.
Ensuring proper medical care for all is part of how we make that principle a reality. Anything that interferes with that is frankly un-American.
Without health insurance one’s ability to engage in “the pursuit of happiness” can be derailed by hypertension, cancer, psychiatric and emotional issues, debilitating pain, and other medical problems, as well as bankruptcy resulting from the expense of lifesaving care.
I once had a friend who could barely walk due to severe gout. Although he was able to remain employed he did miss extra days. The reason he was able to work was because he had health insurance and so was able to see a specialist in that condition who though not able to cure the condition could reduce my friend’s suffering.
You made a promise to the American People that you would protect Medicaid. You have betrayed that promise as one of my senators, Thom Tillis, has pointed out. While I am aware that there are realities to be faced in our world and it is sometimes impossible to keep every political promise made, I think your failure to keep this promise is a major failing on your part. As I wrote above the loss of medical care resulting from your bill will literally kill people.
One of the most important duties of a president is to defend the wellbeing of the people of this nation. By failing to protect Medicaid you have failed in that duty. In fact, since the Big Bad Beautiful Bill is your handiwork you have more than failed to protect the lives of our people but have actually endangered them.
And so, once again you show yourself unworthy of holding the office of president and should resign.
It would be nice to get a news flash soon that you have done so.
Until my next letter.
Richard M. Johnson
