Witchboard movie review & film summary (2025) | Roger Ebert

I really liked this movie for its fun and really interesting idea with the “Pendulum Board”. A pendulum board (individual) is like a Ouija Board (group) but the same idea you ask it questions and there is answer.

This movie is set in 2 different time periods. The 1600s where a vengeful witch dies and uses the Witchboard to disappear. She dies in the 1600s but her spirit is trapped in the board and there is a scene in the beginning with the Witch Hunter who kills her. Everything is connected in this movie.

Witchboard is an extremely violent from the beginnig and the plot lines intersect. There is a community of witches in the present day and a robbery from a New Orleans museum to get the movie started. The Witchboard was looking for a new home. It was supposed to go one place but showed up in the woods while Emily is collecting greens for a new Cajun restaurant. Emily is a former drug addict and there are several murders before she finds in wrapped up in the woods. Things start to escalate. There is a lot of blood in this movie from the beginning.
