Call your member of Congress today and keep calling!

The Capitol Switchboard number is (202) 224–3121. Put that number in your phone and use it!

The very nice, very stressed out operator who answers the phone will put you in contact with your members of Congress when you call that number.

Can’t get through on the Capitol Switchboard? Then, call your Congressperson’s home office. Every Congressperson has at least one in your state and you can find the phone number on their websites.

Remember, your Congressperson likely comes home on the weekends. Sign up for notices about town halls, etc. and show up!

Medicaid covers 72 million Americans. 40% of all births in the US are covered by Medicaid. Another 66 million people in the US are covered by Medicare. And, a sizeable portion of seniors are “dually eligible” for both Medicaid and Medicare. Many of those folks live in nursing homes because of the complexity of their needs.

Every single child I have described on this website is covered by Medicaid. Every. Single. One. If the planned cuts go through, there is a strong likelihood that at least one of my clients may die.

Medicaid is the bread and butter payor for many pediatricians offices and many allied health providers. Most school districts also bill Medicaid to cover speech, occupational, and physical therapy services provided in the schools.

The ripple effects of these cuts will most immediately affect patients and their families by ripping their health insurance away from them. But, they won’t stop there. Many providers will be affected too because we’ve built our practices around the nearly guaranteed payments we’ve come to expect. At least for speech-language pathology, Medicaid (and Tricare) is a much, much more reliable third party payor than any private insurer.

If this administration pushes the cuts to Medicaid through, they won’t stop there. They will cut Medicare and Social Security next.

We can stop them. We just have to use our collective voices!
