The movie begins with a parody of The Exorcist, and one of the craziest things you’ll ever see. The rest of the film is about Cindy (Anna Farris) and her friends studying a haunted house.
Very Few Spoof Worthy Materials
The first Scary Movie was much more entertaining than this one. The main problem is there were few notable horror films at that time. Scary Movie 1 was released in 2000. Scream, the film’s main parody, was released in 1996. That movie had 4 years of material to play around with. This one was released one year after the first movie. That was a bad idea since they had a few material to work on. That’s why they had to pull something from The Exorcist, a movie released in 1973.
Memorable Corny Scenes
Memorable corny scenes include Cindy boxing with a black cat (who looks like a puppet), a creepy clown attacks Ray (Shawn Wayans), a giant plant monster attacks Shorty (Marlon Wayans), and my favorite scene was the parody of the Nike commercial. If you are a basketball fan, you recall that TV ad where the background was dark and players were doing fancy dribbling moves. It was funny when the guy in the wheelchair did a head stand.
Overall, Scary Movie 2 had some entertaining moments but it is a mediocre comedy film. You’ll probably get one or 2 laughs as an added bonus. Most of the scenes were very cartoonish. Watching the movie feels like watching a live action cartoon. I recommend it for hardcore comedy fans who might be disappointed as well.
