You guys ever notice that the LLM-hating subset of the population tends to advance two very popular, yet seemingly conflicting, ideas at once? They are:
- The AI is useless. It hallucinates, it feeds you BS, it can barely get a simple problem right.
-
Students everywhere are overachieving because of the AI doing their work; when they enter the “real world” (where LLMs don’t exist, by the way) they’ll have no idea how to do anything.
The application of the above points depends on what the narrative at hand requires. If AI being good, then the offloading of mental capacity to it is robbing the user. If AI being bad, then dumb user is dumb for ever having trusted it.
I think it’s so funny! Make your mind up boys and girls, is the AI an idiot or a genius that works so well you’ll never have to focus again and your brain will atrophy in the presence of its profound abilities?
