My brother and I saw this old Japanese film years ago and loved it, but we completely forgot the title. Sharing what I remember in case someone can identify it:
Time period- Japanese mainstream drama (approx. 1945–1975).
Plot bits I clearly remember:
The film opens in a boarding/tenement. A young man forces himself onto a female co-tenant (she pushes him away — it’s attempted/forced advance but she rejects him).
Cut to him riding a bike / motorcycle along a sloping embankment or a raceway-type slope (very striking visual).
He is a cutthroat ambitious man and pursues a wealthy heiress / business family daughter(in-law?) who he probably meets in a bar and leaves the co-tenant for her.
They also have a get together on a boat in a lake.
At the end, the wealthy woman berates him and abandons/deserts him.
