What is “selling inside ChatGPT”
There are two fast paths:
- Sell products in chat with Instant Checkout. Today, U.S. shoppers can buy Etsy items directly in ChatGPT. Shopify support is coming soon. First release supports single-item purchases; carts and global rollout are next. Merchants pay a small fee; users pay nothing extra.
- Sell your own AI tools via the GPT Store (custom GPTs people use and you monetize). OpenAI’s program pays builders based on usage, and community reporting shows payouts have been uneven — so use it as a channel, not your whole business.
Why this is new: ChatGPT isn’t just a chat box. With Agent mode and Operator, it can browse, click, type, and complete tasks on a virtual computer — asking permission for sensitive steps.
