Four years ago, out of sheer boredom and a bit of curiosity, I started a TikTok account—@kommentaar.co.za.
At the time, I had no clue what I was doing (who really does in the beginning?). All I knew was that I wanted to say something, create something, share something—especially in Afrikaans and English, the way we speak and live it here in South Africa. Fast forward to today, and here we are: 13,700 followers strong, over 40,000 likes, and more than 300 videos later!
But let’s get to the juicy part: what’s it all worth?
From TikTok to Blog
Alongside the TikTok page, I started building a blog—www.kommentaar.co.za—a platform for real, sometimes raw, and always relevant commentary and insight, especially for the Afrikaans-speaking community. It’s still growing, but surprisingly, it’s already earning me an average of R380 per week through various monetization methods. Not too bad for something that started out as a creative outlet, right?
