So, I have a question about the first Hunger Games movie…

When it first premiered in theaters back in 2012, people were comparing this movie to another movie called, "Battle Royale" because it featured kids being forced to fight each other to the death. huh?! Now, I have been the first Hunger Games book and according to the author, Suzanne Collins, she has never even seen the movie, Battle Royale while she was writing the books. Most of her inspirations for the Hunger Games franchise came from reality TV game shows that were popular at the time such as Hell's Kitchen, Survivor, etc. not once did she thought she was rip off the premise of a Japanese movie that featured delinquent students being forced by the government to fight each other to the death just to behave like a good little boy or girl. So, why did everyone else just assumed that she was ripping off Battle Royale when the first Hunger Games movie came out? Did none of these people actually read the book before they jumped to that conclusion?
