America is preparing for one of the most aggressive economic overhauls in years. Starting October 1, President Donald Trump’s administration is imposing tariffs that affect everything from life-saving drugs to couches in living rooms and big trucks. To boot, he’s approved a $14 billion deal that transfers TikTok’s U.S. operation into American investors reimagining the future of one of the globe’s most addictive applications.

The blockbuster news is in pharmaceuticals. Branded medicines imported into the US are about to be hit with a 100% tariff that will see prices literally double in a night unless drug firms begin manufacturing them in America. Trump’s administration claims this will revive domestic manufacturing and cut the reliance on nations such as India and Japan. Critics, however, predict it will become a nightmare for patients already finding prescriptions hard to afford.

The blow doesn’t end there with medicine. Vanities and kitchen cabinets are hit with a 50% tariff, upholstered furniture with 30%, and heavy trucks a 25%…
