
Here’s a great example from the Lower East Side: a local-access street that reduces thru-traffic, keeps deliveries and residents moving, and makes room for outdoor dining, walking, and safer biking.
The result? Less honking, more foot traffic, and stronger business for the locals actually trying to enjoy or run a shop in the neighborhood — not just cut through it.
We need more of this. Manhattan doesn’t need to be a shortcut for drivers heading somewhere else. It needs to work better for the millions of people already living here.
