The Glassworker is about a man named Vincent who inheritted a glass working career from his father. Meanwhile, war brews, and we the hardships that come with it.
A landmark in Pakistan’s animation, it it 2D animated in a style very similar to Japan’s Studio Ghibli. In fact one can call it a “pseudo-Ghibli movie”, as it shares many aesthetics like an European-esque turn of the century setting and vivid displays of making something (in this case being glass, not food).
It doesn’t shy away from mature themes — this is a war movie, after all — and overall there is a sense of how wonder can persevere in such harsh conditions.
A solid recommendation and I hope Pakistan gets to make more movies like this.
