The Gods of Christianity Book Review

Summary

The Gods of Christianity by Garrett Hale tells the story of Grace Lewis. When Grace was a child, her country’s government forbade Christian worship. Her family had to hike in the dark and the snow to meet in secret with their small church, and every meeting held the danger of being discovered and imprisoned, or worse. But everything changed once her country granted its people the freedom to worship however they wished.

Grace’s church, though free from persecution by the state, came under attack by three false gods: Safety, Comfort, and Entertainment. As the congregation started worshiping these idols more than Jesus Christ, the once on-fire church began a slow path to ruin. These gods of Christianity destroyed more mighty soldiers for Christ than the oppressive government ever did. Are they after you too?

My Thoughts

The Gods of Christianity is a great short story that carries a powerful message. Modern day Christians are under constant temptation from these idols, and more often than not, succumb to them. The book is a wakeup call for us to be soldiers for Christ, and to put Him and His work above our Safety, Comfort, and Entertainment. He died for us; are we willing to live for Him?

My Rating: 4/5
