I’ve been told it’s normal for business owners to run a deficit in the first few years. And whether you’ve thought of it this way or not, we indie authors have book businesses. Yes, there are legitimate expenses we should make, but others are a waste of money. In this article, I’m sharing the top five things indie authors waste their money on — according to ChatGPT — because I want to help you avoid pitfalls many of us have fallen prey to, so you can make a profit sooner.

I understand the appeal of these businesses because they make it sound like they’re doing us a huge favour. But I’ve heard of authors who have had bad experiences with vanity publishers. And honestly, they’re not required.
