There is no 30 day retention policy – Why is openAI allowed to lie?

ChatGPT will claim it has a 30 day chat retention policy, but that's not true.

They keep chat logs for much longer than 30 days, and we see this on the news when police are investigating someone.

They will have access to chat logs from months ago. And it's not like openAI knew who was going to commit crimes before they happened, so it doesn't make legal sense that they would retain these logs.

Saying they only keep logs for 30 days is blatantly false. Why is it legal for them to claim this when it's not the case?

I get that there are terms of service, but they directly contradict the statement that logs are only kept for 30 days. This seems like a consumer rights violation to me.

Can someone explain why it isnt?
