The Property
The owners of this stunning villa in Portugal’s Quinta do Lago wanted to upgrade their property with the aim of spending more time there.
They brought on designer Jutta Hoehn, the creative mind behind architectural studio JSH Algarve, to help them transform the dated villa into a contemporary modern home. While it started out as a small project, when Jutta shared a full proposal the owners jumped in with a top-to-toe transformation.
The modern home now boasts six large bedrooms, spacious living and dining rooms, as well as a modern home spa, gym, large outdoor terrace and cinema room. The project took just over a year from start to finish.

Entrance
Inside, large warehouse style windows and sculptural staircases juxtapose with statement antique pieces like the entrance door which was imported from Morocco.

Poured concrete flooring flows between the rooms, making the floors flush, modern and easy to keep clean.

Old doors were swapped out for Crittall glass doors, allowing for more natural light.

TV snug
Polished concrete, old wood, Crittall windows, and rusted iron are the main materials used throughout, with modern furniture sitting alongside antique statement pieces.

A dividing wall houses a modern fireplace and TV, creating a cosy TV snug on one side. Floor to ceiling windows frame views out to the pool.

Kitchen and dining area
Teal wall tiles create a colourful accent wall in the white kitchen, with a fun neon pink light-up sign.

A waterfall style modern kitchen island houses plenty of kitchen storage, as well as a double sink and the main cooking hobs.

Guest bedroom
There are six bedrooms, each with their own scheme. A ground floor guest bedroom opens directly onto the patio , with black-out curtains to help block out the light at bedtime.

Staircase
The staircase and stairwell is thoroughly modern and has been completely transformed, featuring a large double height arched window and a cluster of rustic pendants.

Bathrooms
The tiles in all of the modern bathrooms are ecologically produced, and instead of importing older wood from Belgium, Jutta worked with a carpenter to ‘distress’ locally-sourced wood for a more stylised yet eco-friendly effect.

Home spa

Here there’s also a stunning home cinema, with twinkling lights in the ceiling and giant, swallow-you-up sofas and daybeds for lounging in.

Garden
The home isn’t just beautiful, it’s eco-friendly and self sufficient too, with concealed solar panels on the roof to power the hot water supply, heated swimming pool and the underfloor heating throughout.

JSH Algarve specialise in developing luxury private homes in the “Golden Triangle” which includes Quinta do Lago and Vale do Lobo. Known for blending luxury design with eco-consciousness and green architecture, the majority of their projects have, as standard, solar panels for hot water production (which in most cases heats the swimming pool), double or triple specialist glazing with high solar factors, thermal insulation in the window frames and photo-voltaic panels which provide the vast majority of their electricity requirements.

Wraparound terrace
A covered terrace wraps around the property, as a space that connects the indoors and outdoors. The terrace can fully open up with large floor to ceiling doors, and can be closed for security when the holiday home is not in use.
