Once upon a time, you could read a whole book without checking your phone.
Now? You start reading one paragraph, and boom — you’re deep into a TikTok rabbit hole about how bread was invented in ancient Mesopotamia. (Thanks, algorithm.)
Welcome to the age of TikTok Brain — where dopamine hits are 15 seconds apart, your attention span is shorter than a goldfish’s, and your inner monologue has been replaced by trending audio.
Let’s talk about how we got here. (Don’t worry, we’ll keep it short — because we know you’re probably multitasking.)
What Is TikTok Brain (and Do I Have It)?
TikTok Brain isn’t a real medical diagnosis, but it might as well be.
It’s what happens when your brain gets used to short-form, high-reward content — like TikToks, Reels, and YouTube Shorts. Over time, you start craving quick dopamine instead of slow, deep thinking.
Symptoms may include:
- Trying to skip forward during a conversation because it’s “too slow”
- Watching 3-hour essays on YouTube at 2x speed… but also watching 30 TikToks back-to-back
