TikTok Gets Customers — But Is this Ultimately Good For Business?

Have you noticed the long queues of young people outside restaurants, and so on?

It seems there is a TikTok trend that can make or break a local business — restaurants, coffee shops, pubs/bars, and so on. It takes only one TikTok user to advertise a new cool place to eat, and the next minute — it’s packed, with long queues outside. And the result — the local and loyal clientele gets pushed aside.

But once the fad is over, another post on TikTok can drive the queues elsewhere. And the restaurant lands up struggling — because the locals, pushed out, have also gone elsewhere.

Are we therefore building a community — or are we breaking it?

-Have you seen this happen in your area?

-Would you go back to a place after the hype dies down?

-How can we support local spots long-term?

-Have you spoke to your kids about this?

And indeed, has this happened to your business?

Maybe we need to take better care, as we could be harming our local communities?
