What I discovered when I finally checked my screen time
Less than a month ago, TikTok was ruining my life. I would challenge myself to have less than an hour of screen time. I would fail within the first half of the day.
I didn’t realize quite how long I spent on TikTok just mindlessly scrolling until I actually looked at my screen time. After what I thought had been five to ten minutes, it had actually been 3 or 4 hours.
I would always complain that my days went too fast or that I needed more hours in the day. But what I really need is to break this habit of scrolling, and to reclaim the hours of my life that I spend on social media.
In those 3 hours alone, I could have cooked, exercised, taken a walk, or even read. All of which are tasks I regularly told myself I don’t have time for.
And it’s not like it’s just 3 hours a day. My screen time averaged at least 12 hours daily. TWELVE hours a day! Twelve hours of my life spent staring at a screen on my phone.
I would spend hours comparing my neglected life to the seemingly perfect life that others share on social media. It made me physically sick, knowing that in just one week, I wasted over 56 hours of my life to a social media addiction.
