I spend a lot of time on TikTok, both for work and because it is one of the few platforms that still feels alive. Recently, I noticed something interesting in the app’s announcements. TikTok is testing a new control that lets users decide how much AI-generated content appears in their feed. And honestly, I think this is long overdue.
For months, My For You Page has been a mix of real creators, brand campaigns, and a flood of AI-made clips that often look identical. Some are fun, but many feel repetitive or borderline misleading. So a tool that gives me control over this balance? I welcome it.
A New Slider to Adjust AI Content
TikTok is placing this AI control inside the “Manage topics” section, the same place where you can increase or decrease how much you want to see fitness videos, dance content, travel clips, or current affairs. The new slider works the same way. You get two levels to request more AI content and two levels to request less.
From a user perspective, it is simple. But behind the scenes, it only works if TikTok can correctly identify what is or is not AI-made.

TikTok’s Big Challenge: Detecting AI Content
AI detection has become a headache for every major platform. Many creators remove the visible “AI generated” labels or crop out watermarks before uploading. TikTok’s solution is something I find smart and slightly concerning at the same time: invisible watermarks.
The company says it will embed these hidden markers in videos made through its own tools like AI Editor Pro. It will also apply them to uploads that carry C2PA Content Credentials, which is the industry’s digital authenticity standard. Although useful, C2PA has already shown that it is not foolproof. People have found ways around it on other platforms and I do not expect TikTok’s ecosystem to be any different.
Still, it is a step in the right direction because you cannot filter what you cannot detect.
Why This Update Matters
As someone who works in social media, I can see how this move is TikTok’s attempt to get ahead of a rising problem. AI videos are exploding in volume. Some creators are transparent, but many are not. When the feed feels too artificial, people lose trust. And trust is the fuel that keeps TikTok’s recommendation system powerful.
Giving users a dial to control the balance between AI and human content signals two things to me:
- TikTok knows AI fatigue is real.
- The platform wants to protect the “authentic creator” vibe that made it popular.
This filter also gives everyday users a sense of control at a time when the line between real and synthetic content is getting blurrier.

When Is This Rolling Out?
TikTok says the AI slider and the watermarking improvements will roll out in the coming weeks. However, the slider is still a test feature. So some of us may get it early while others may only see it if TikTok decides to launch it globally.
Either way, I will be trying it out the moment it appears in my app.
My Take
Personally, I think giving people control is the only sustainable way forward. AI content is not going away. It is creative, fast, and often cheaper to produce. But users deserve the option to choose how much of it they want to see.
I like AI tools, yet I still prefer variety on my feed. If this slider can help me strike that balance, I am all for it.
And if invisible watermarks can help the algorithm understand what I am actually watching, then maybe the For You Page will feel a bit more “me” again.
