On September 15th, local time, while Li Chenggang, China’s International Trade Representative and Vice Minister of Commerce, represented China in serious negotiations with US representatives in Madrid, across the Pacific in the White House, Trump was furiously typing away at his screen.

“We’ve also reached an agreement on a ‘specific’ company!” he excitedly announced on social media. “Young people in our country really want to save this Chinese company…”

This “specific company” was none other than TikTok, the company he threatened to “strangle” five years ago. The comment section was bustling with mockery of Trump’s “constant changes of policy.”
