Trump might extend the deal’s TikTok deadline.

WEST BEACH: If a deal has not been struck by June 19, US President Donald Trump has threatened to extend the deadline for China-based ByteDance to sell off US assets of TikTok, the app that 170 million Americans use for short videos.

“I would Trump stated, “I’d like to see it done,” in an interview recorded on Friday at his Mar-a-Lago home in Palm Beach, Florida, for the NBC News program “Meet the Press with Kristen Welker,” which will run nationwide on Sunday.
After the software helped him win over young people in the 2024 presidential election, Trump claimed to have a “sweet spot” for it. “TikTok is — it’s very interesting, but it will be protected,” he added. A congressionally required TikTok ban that was originally scheduled to go into effect in January has already been given two reprieves by Trump.

Following Trump’s announcements of heavy tariffs on Chinese imports, a proposal that would have spun out TikTok’s US operations into a new company based in the US and primarily owned and operated by US investors was placed on hold when China indicated it would not allow it.
Democratic senators contend that Trump lacks the legal right to extend the deadline and imply that the proposed agreement would not comply with the law.
Work on the potential agreement is still ongoing ahead…
