U.S. Department of Energy Partners with AMD in $1 Billion Supercomputer and AI Initiative


The U.S. Department of Energy announced a $1 billion partnership with AMD to build two next-generation supercomputers designed to accelerate breakthroughs in fusion energy, nuclear science, and medical research. The systems, codenamed Lux and Discovery, will leverage AMD’s advanced processors and AI technology, with the first expected to go online within six months and the second by 2029. The deal strengthens AMD’s foothold in high-performance computing while underscoring the government’s push to treat AI infrastructure as critical to national competitiveness.
