INTRO
After I rebooted my Windows 10 computer, I ran into an issue where the kernals were mismatching between VirtualBox and my VM. I ended up getting this message
After re-installing VB I got this error
PROBLEM
When trying to start my VM, I ran into this error where the kernels were mismatching
SOULTION
I still haven’t found the source of the issue. however I was able to get my VMs running again.
I ended up completed uninstalling Virtualbox (and also deleted the .VirtualBox folder in %USERPROFILE%/.Virtualbox and also the Programs Folder in C:\Program Files\Oracle\Virtualbox
After uninstalling, I downloaded Virtualbox 6.1.24 (at the time of this writing, 6.1.28 is the current version. 6.1.26 also didn’t work, but threw a different error).
After installing 6.1.24, I rebooted my computer, then added my VM to Virtualbox. After that, I reconfigured my Host Only Adapter to make sure it was set properly.
Finally, I was able to successfully boot my VM and continue working. Not sure who to blame on this if it was Windows or Virtualbox.
UPDATE:
I believe the reason I ran into this problem is because the IT dept kept trying to update Virtual Box on my laptop, however, something they are doing is only partially updated the current installation. Perhaps, we shouldn’t allow children to play with grown-up toys.
