Sucks to be all of us, but you in particular get no sympathy from me.
Well, as of the writing of this, the Big Bullshit Bill passed and is on its way to Trump’s desk. He will inevitably sign it, probably on Independence Day in a big ol’ spectacle with the press and a bunch of his lackeys flanking him. He’ll crow about how great it is and it’ll be all over the news for a bit before it all fades away.
Predictably, the bill gives a bunch of handouts to billionaires and functionally establishes ICE as a secret police force, all while stripping Medicaid and Medicare funding for low income folks, among many other things. You can undoubtedly google loads of articles that lay all of this out better than I could, and a lot of them will point out how cruel the bill is to everyone but billionaires, the military industrial complex, and the police state.
However, one of the fascinating things to me is how completely uninformed many people are on how the bill will impact them directly. Just with the Medicaid and Medicare cuts alone, it’s looking like around 10.5 million people will be cut from Medicaid and Children’s Health Insurance Program (CHIP) alone.
