I would love to hear what movies felt magical to you as a kid and which ones you can still see today and feel that magic (in a lesser sense unfortunately for me.) today.
Personally i have to start with :
The goonies : the music, the acting, the sheer fun exploding on screen …
Indiana Jones (the first three movies) : Harisson Ford will always be Indy to me and the music makes it all feel so exhillarating.
Hook : Seeing Dustin Hoffman and Robin Williams together, the decors, what a movie.
Star Wars (4,5,6) : Well i grew up with it and it's stuck with me. It pains me to see how Disney butchered it, especially the extended universe which has so much great stuff. But the original trilogy is still dear and near to me.
Brother where art thou : Clooney feels always fantastic when he does comedy. And once more the soundtrack and acting is fantastic.
Dances With Wolves : This is more of a sentimental choice for me, my mother adores this movie, i heard the soundtrack everywhere as a kid. I really liked the movie itself as well but this is more like a reminder of my mother. (She's still alive)
There are many more movies, it seems to me it's mostly the music that does it.
I miss the good actors today, it seems the younger actors lack a certain "je ne sais quoi".
I bet it's also mostly because actors are often acting in complete green screen environments and often without another player to interact with. Bring back practical effects !
What are your magical movies, the ones that you can see over and over again and makes you feel better ?
Cheers !
