What is your opinion on movie recaps?

Lately I’ve been thinking a lot about movie recap channels—the ones that condense entire films into a 5–10 minute summary with clips. Personally, I feel like they’re one of the reasons cinema is struggling. Sure, they’re convenient and give the story quickly, but they completely remove the suspense, emotional buildup, and overall experience that makes a movie worth watching in the first place.

As a filmmaker myself, I keep wondering: why isn’t anyone doing anything to stop these channels? Or are people trying, and it just doesn’t work? Is it because of copyright loopholes? Because honestly, it feels weird that someone can take a film people worked years on, cut it into pieces, and retell the story for views.

Are filmmakers actually okay with this? Do studios tolerate it? And if there are efforts to stop recap content, why does it keep surviving on YouTube and TikTok?

I’m also curious if anyone genuinely believes recaps are good for cinema—like maybe they increase interest or accessibility?

What’s your opinion? Are movie recaps harmless, harmful, or something in between?
