What movie is a stand out best adaptation of a novel for you ?

Still getting loads of "the film is better than the book" etc … So either my thread starter discussion question is wrongly worded or people are not reading the fine print or people just want to ignore the question and plow on with how much they thought the film was better etc.

Question: What movie do you think is a faithful adaptation of the book ?

( I think that is a better question… but I can't change the thread title so … here we are. )

and no I am not high on glue like some person suggested. Which did make me feel a bit sad. I got over it. I did report them. I narked. I did.

:- )

PS. Another question I am considering is this: Why do people think it is totally ok to make a film of a book where they change the story significantly etc ? I see a lot of people who just don't seem to care about the book too much. However I do see some people who do care about the book and have been very happy with the film adaptation, this is great news. One day I would like to see a film that is a faithful adaptation of The Iron Man by Ted Hughes. and I mean really really faithful. With the ending where the giant space bat flies around the planet singing to us. * looks at book case…*

TLDR : Take book . make movie. is there a movie that nails the book ?

!!! – please make a note in your reply to alert the reader to a "I liked the movie more than the book " or something , as that's a bit off topic. The topic is about the quality of the adaption, but wait AND then there is a point , raised quite early on, which shows the film to be Superior to the book, HECK ! ( I did not see that coming…)

We are looking for films that do the book justice ! ( all info is good though ! )

Ahem:

Without thinking too deeply I would suggest this:

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Andromeda_Strain_(film))

( I chose this as I love SF and it's one of the most obvious good SF novel adaptations that can think of , I would be really interested in other films that are held in high regard due to the accurate adaption from book to film, regardless of genre. )

A side discussion ( which is my pet peeve ) : script writers that change a book you love: what was your reaction ? Did they make it "better" or are you still mortally offended ?

I love films. I love books. But the book to film translation is almost always terrible. Hmm ?

( No I am not crazy or AI. This is not an emergency. )

I will say this though: I get quite cross when I see a very bad adaption of a really good novel. …

Have a nice day ! :- )
