During the XBOX 360/PS3 era we used to have a ton of cover based strictly linear story based third person shooters, games like Max Payne 3, Spec Ops the Line, Binary Domain, Gears of War quadrilogy, Kane&Lynch1+2, The Uncharted Trilogy,Mass Effect 2+3, Inversion, Vanquish, Wanted Weapons of Fate, The Army of Two Trilogy, 50 Cent blood in the sand and many many more were the bread and butter of our "video game meals". Hell we even had a Harry Potter third person shooter for Christ Sake… But after the end of that generation they started to disappear, going forward, during the PS4 generation era we had The Order 1886 but that was criticized heavily for it's short length and for it's "linearity" (i never understood why a game linearity was a problem) and Quantum Break that was universally praised
What cause them to suddenly become non popular?
I have a few theories
1 The introduction of stealth options made them way too easy
2 They tried to make them all open world or semi open world to make them lengthier
3 They were disappointed because even one of the best of the genre Max Payne 3 didn't sell very well
What can we do to bring them back? I'm so tired of getting only souls like and rogue like games. Do you miss them?
