My fiancé and I are both 34 years old. We just went to Hawai'i (Big Island), and the lush jungle scenery prompted him to start humming the "Jurassic Park" theme song (very out of key and off rhythm). This led me to divulge that I have never watched "Jurassic Park" in one sitting from start to finish.
Fast forward to yesterday, and this news headline: "Carmel could become 1st California city to permanently ban pickleball" I joked that Kevin Bacon should do a sequel to "Footloose" called "Pickleloose". This led my partner to ask, "What's 'Footloose'?". He proceeded to tell me he had never heard of not only the movie but also the song by Kenny Loggins.
My argument is that not knowing anything about the existence of "Footloose" is measurably worse than only having seen a tiny portion of "Jurassic Park." He argues that "Jurassic Park" has far greater cultural significance than "Footloose" so only having seen clips of the former is worse than not being able to even recognize a conversational reference to the latter.
Any help you can provide would be greatly appreciated. We desperately need a third party to decide this for us so we can go back to our regularly scheduled happy relationship.
