My dad will be turning 80 soon. He likes being up to date with modern technology. Lately, he asked me to show him more “about all the AI stuff”.
I showed him a few examples, and this was his feedback.
- Conversation with ChatGPT: he was totally unimpressed “why would I want to do that”
- Search with ChatGPT: “this is just fancy Google”
- Unimpressed with image generation “this is just like Photoshop but you control it differently”
- Unimpressed with generating music, as he assumed that this is how music is being made anyways today
- Unimpressed with drafting email “you need to proof read it anyway and by the time you’re done you could write it yourself”
- However: he really liked ChatGPT being able to translate texts to almost all languages (he didn’t know about Deepl)
- He was really fascinated by ChatGPT simplifying complex topics, taking Wikipedia as a starting point, or vice versa, expanding on topics that he is knowledgeable about
I feel like I’m missing something in the examples I’m showing him.
What are everyday AI use cases that older people may like?
