But I remember how huge Flashdance was when it came out. It was everywhere. The dance scenes became part of pop culture. Beals' whole look was exciting and it was a empowering movie about a girl working as a construction worker by day and at night, a sexy dancer at a nightclub, who aspires to be a Ballet dancer. So the plot was stupid beyond belief but who cares when Alex had those dance moves and the camera loved her. The music, oh my god, "What a Feeling", "Romeo",…etc.
But Beals' career didn't seem to take off in a way John Travolta's did with "Saturday Night Fever". Sure, she didn't do a romcom with Lily Tomlin with matching hair but she never got another high profile mainstream movie role, though she did some interesting projects.
