Why Does Hockey Translate So Well To Film?

I love sports films. Boxing and Baseball have most of the great films ever made under this genre, such as "Rocky", "The Joe Louis Story", "Raging Bull", "Major League" and "The Natural." Bur despite these great films, there are so many more from those sports which do not provide great viewing experiences. Football has quite a few fantastic films as well, including "Brian's Song", "Longest Yard", and "Remember The Titans".

However, the sport that has the best great to bad films ratio has to be hockey. From "Youngblood" to "Slap Shot" to "Mystery, Alaska" to "Miracle" the sport of hockey produces fantastic cinema time and again. My question is why is this? What makes hockey of all sports such a great medium for film?
