By Someone Who Finally Logged Off
I quit. Cold turkey. It started with a 2 week much needed social media detox and I’m never going back.
Social Media Detox : How It Went
It went swimmingly. The first week flew by pretty fast and I didn’t even feel the need to open the apps to check anything. After a week and a half, I was considering — deleting / deactivating both apps on my phone. I went with deleting both for good.
Why?
1. I Want My Attention Back
Without the constant scroll, I started watching meaningful documentaries and reading.
2. I Want More Mental Clarity
My brain felt lighter. Less cluttered.
3. I Want Better & Healthier Relationships
Calls are better with people who I approve in my life.
4. I Want More Time (Seriously)
I reclaimed hours. Hours I used to read, exercise, write, and just be. I started finishing books again. I picked up hobbies I had abandoned. It turns out life is full when you’re actually living it.
5. I Want A New Definition of Self-Worth
Without likes and views as validation, I had to ask: Who am I without an audience? That question is freeing. I stopped measuring my life by engagement and started measuring it by fulfillment.
Am I ready to say goodbye to WhatsApp too?
