Why is the director of a film so important? What percentage of the final product would you say is dependent on them? 50? 75? 100%

Whenever someone talks about how great a film is, no matter what about the film it is, they usually give credit to the director for their incredible creativity. But how do we know it’s not the creativity of the writer or the cinematographer or the editor? why are they, as individuals given so much credit? When they don’t directly control any of these aspects? Is it possible to quantify how much influence a director has? How can a director have influence? Why are they viewed as so important? what is their influence?

Also, what percentage of a film’s final product would you say is dependent on them?
