I used to think that for a three hour movie they would have maybe four hours of film, then edit out a few details here and there, but after seeing all of these directors, cuts and secret clips and everything, it seems like they film much longer versions of these movies and then chopped them down. I’d be curious to know from somebody in the industry how much of what is filmed is chopped down, excluding bloopers and extra takes. I mean when a Director presents essentially a finished film to the editors, is it always six hours long or 10 hours long and cut down or is it usually much less?
