Your Voice Matters: Why You Should Leave a Glassdoor Review

Ever walked into a job interview not knowing what to expect? What if someone had told you what it was really like to work there?

In a world where companies spend millions on product marketing and millions more on recruiting talent, anonymous employee reviews are one of the few tools that level the playing field. Platforms like Glassdoor, Indeed, or Comparably let us — the workers — share our work experiences honestly. And yet, most of us don’t do it.

Last Saturday, I got an alert about a colleague who had left a rating on Glassdoor about the company where we work/worked.

I had no idea my colleague had left, much less what they’d been going through! If I’d known sooner… I don’t know if I could’ve helped, but I would’ve felt less alone in my own situation. Realizing my situation wasn’t unique brought both relief and sadness. I know this colleague — they’re a good person.

So I reflected on my own use of Glassdoor, Indeed, and many other job platforms.

Why don’t we leave reviews?

Even though millions of people read reviews before applying, only a minority actually write them. Why?
