MY GROWING UP WITH PAUL MCCARTNEY TRILOGY: PART ONE
Paul McCartney and Wings toured Australia in 1975. Venus and Mars was their current album. I was ten.
I recall seeing the single, Letting Go, on Countdown endlessly. I assumed it had been Number One, but I was mistaken. Childhood memories can be like that. The album itself peaked at Number Two.
For an artist as big as McCartney and Wings it feels strange that I can find neither Letting Go’s chart position, nor the original film clip.
I was enamoured with the Kung Fu TV series at the time and liked the vaguely martial arts jacket Paul was wearing in the clip. Coincidentally, I did find this clip filmed in my home town.
In another strange turn of events, not a single song off Venus and Mars made it onto Wings Greatest despite trivia such as Hi, Hi, Hi, Junior’s Farm and My Love getting a guernsey.
